Acts 5

38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.

I don't recall this section, thought we have obviously read it before since we covered every chapter!  What a great testament to Jesus.  Gamaliel's statement came true, the purpose of Peter and John was not of human origin.  It did not fail, we are still learning from it 2000 years later.

thank you Jesus.

Acts 4

19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges!

This is my verse today.  I'm asking myself the same question.  Are you going to listen to the world?, or to God?  Which is more important to you?  It's an obvious answer.  But, I don't act like it sometimes.  I think the truth is, that I don't know exactly what that means.  Am I to sell some plots of land and lay it at the disciples feet?

Today, I'm driving down to Elkhart In.  to go to Trent's funeral.  It's gonna be a tough one.  I don't even really know what happened yet.  I have a feeling its not good.

Acts 3

16 By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.
17 “Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. 18 But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer. 19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

He continues to execute the plan.  He gives yet another opportunity to be understood.  This guy he had planted for years with physical problems he has now chosen the perfect time to through his disciples to illustrate the power of having faith in Jesus and he is healed.  People know its a miracle.
Peter quickly and simply connects the dots for them.  Its Jesus.  Remember you killed him.  But thats ok you were ignorant and God had said that would happen.  But don't blow it again, repent and receive the gifts Jesus promised while he walked on earth.

So the gift is ours today just like it was for them when this was written.  Its also our responsibility to make sure we share this gift.

Acts 2

32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.

I'm a guy that likes facts and needs things to make sense logically and objectively.  This can be a strain on my faith sometimes because there are things  I just can't understand, miracles that can only be explained as that because there is not law of physics that helps make sense of it.  In the past that was a real strain on my faith, not so as I am older.

This simple verse gives helps that side of me that can struggle with logic.  He reminds the group of the fact that they all have seen that Jesus was raised from the dead.  This book would not have survived if that was a lie.  People would have torn it up.  But instead they all felt the guilt of their actions because they knew he was speaking the truth.

its a fact, Jesus was raised from the dead.  Its not logical and I don't need it to be.  I believe.  Funny when people attack our faith they can point to illogical things, but when scientist say life was born out of a rock that exploded that makes perfect sense.  They have faith too, just misplaced in a human scientists' ability.

Acts 1

20 “For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms:
“‘May his place be deserted;
let there be no one to dwell in it,’[e]
and,
“‘May another take his place of leadership.’[f]

Well again I came up pretty empty.  This caught my attention and I did a little research but did not find anything too insightful.  I just like when the Old and New Testaments connect.  It shows me God's plan crosses time.  In this case its not obvious too me that the verses referenced applied to Judas, but what I take away is that studying the Old Testament is still critical for us.  Even the disciples referenced the OT to guide their direction and decions and they had the privilege of first hand accounts from Jesus.  So if its important for them it is for me.

John 21

Just returned from a week off of work, what an awesome break.  Did some racing both weekends and Gina's parents in the middle for the 4th.  Hope you guys had a great 4th as well!

25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

No real take for me this morning.  My mind is just wondering about what other things Jesus did that are not captured in the bible.  I'm still amazed at what has been captured in the bible and I think it just shows how powerful those experiences were to have been captured and passed through time in such a consistent manner via the bible.  It's not like it was on the internet and instantly available globally.   But it still managed to cover the globe long before the ease of technology came along.

pretty amazing.
