4 Adam[a] made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.[b] She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth[c] a man.” 2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.
Many questions in my mind when reading this chapter. The verse above makes it sound like sex wasn't a thing until the eating of the fruit......do you read it that way? Maybe I'm reading more into verse 1 than is really there.
Second observation is that it took 2 generations of people before someone killed someone else. That is REALLY sad! It didn't take long for the selfishness of man to rear its ultimate head.
Third, its not totally clear as to why God put favor on Abel and not Cain. I'm assuming it was because Abel brought offerings from the BEST of his work...and it says that Cain just brought some of his stuff....it doesn't say the best.
Fourth.
17 Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch.
Where did his wife come from? Was she his sister? Were there other people around at the time? Hhhhhmmmmm.. she just pops in there.
So many questions. I didn't even touch on the question of how these stories relate to the theory of evolution. Is there any possible connection between the theories? Is this a "representation" of early man? Is it literal? Does this take place once God has evolved man? It doesn't read that way? Did God create the earth 10 minutes ago, and all of our thoughts and memories were all placed in our heads?.......BBBOOOMMMMM!!!!! mind blown......not.....smart......enough!

3-5 Time passed. Cain brought an offering to God from the produce of his farm. Abel also brought an offering, but from the firstborn animals of his herd, choice cuts of meat. God liked Abel and his offering, but Cain and his offering didn’t get his approval. Cain lost his temper and went into a sulk.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very early lesson for mankind to give of our first and our best to God. Nothing written about tithing yet, but its clear just giving back to him some of what he gave us is not really pleasing to him. He was honored by Able giving some of his best, and perhaps without being asked. So maybe I should spend a lot more time looking for ways to give Him my best no matter the circumstances and a lot less time asking for things from him.
Here's my reply to your take:
1--you might be right, before biting the apple they didn't even notice they were naked. I usually notice nakedness prior to sex
2--agreed that is sad, sin is powerful
3--agreed, see my take for the day
4--its his sister. no rules against sex with close relation until later in the bible. Adam could find no suitable mate so God made Eve. So there were no other women. So all people came from those two, so available women must of come from them.
