Ezra 3

Ch3 11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord:
“He is good;
    his love toward Israel endures forever.”
And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. 12 ...people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.

As they saw the progress on the rebuilding of the temple they were moved with great emotion to sing and shout praise.  Since our time as kids in Orchard Hill to now it seems there has been a change in worship from very reserved to more expressive in the general church population.  But other than our one weekend at Antioch Baptist I don't think I have participated in worship where people truly shout praise.  We shout at sporting events freely...church not so much.

maybe we should be moved towards noise during church, the consequences are much more important than a scoreboard at Kinnick stadium or the Big House.

  1. I agree....sometimes I feel like shouting. But, I quickly squash it. Makes me wonder.
    We had a visiting pastor a couple of weeks ago that was talking about how excited we get at sporting events, and why we don't get that excited when we see God do something really great. He vowed to have the same reaction when someone is filled with the Spirit and does something great.

    I'm struck in this verse about how dedicated the people were to rebuilding the temple. It took them 2 years before the even laid the foundation for the new building. In our disposable, instant gratification sort of society, I don't think that would fly. My attention doesn't stay on one thing for more than 1 tv segment between commercials of bounty, the quicker picker upper........These people were on a mission. They were completely dedicated to bringing God's kingdom to this earth. Its a good reminder for me. Many days, my mission is me, or my family......and God is somewhere down the line.

    peace out
