Amos 3

Listen to this, Israel. God is calling you to account—and I mean all of you, everyone connected with the family that he delivered out of Egypt. Listen!

I think he is talking to us, not just people alive back in the day of his writings.  I have been doing some research this morning, trying to understand geography, timelines significance of the earthquake Amos predicted in chapter one etc.  I find there is so much detail it is overwhelming.  I enjoy trying to connect the dots of prophecies and history but also feel like I have a tenth of a thimble of knowledge in what amounts to an ocean of information.

No real take today, below is a link to one of the articles I found interesting.

  1. It s a mind-bender to think that something can be written to predict pending events in both the near term, and very distant future. I can't really wrap my mind around it. But, a couple of years ago, I got into a heated discussion with a bible study leader about this very thing. We were working thru Genesis, and he said that we must understand the culture of the time, because it was written for those people.......I disagreed. My premise was that it was written for both. I thought it was speaking to me as well. Same thing. If you think about the bible in terms of people turning to God, and then falling away.....turning to God and falling away.....turning to God and then falling away. I can completey see how this prophecie could be relevant today. WE ARE STILL DOING THE SAME THINGS!

I like the artice. We should probably be doing more research into the books/chapters we are reading about.

  2. I agree, i was just saying to Gina I think we need to do more research especially when we are reading the OT and some of these prophets to understand context of their writings better right before I read your post.
