2 Chronicles 18

Wouldn't it be great if there were prophets around today, that we could go to and ask questions?  Someone that you know would speak the truth of God, and not be swayed by the world.  I guess God wants us to have a close relationship with him.....that would make US the prophets.  What do you think about that?  I do find it interesting that Jehosaphat was seen as a very Godly man.  Yet he was obviously very reliant on the prophets for confirmation of things. hmmmm.

But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?”

Where does that leave us?  I think I have an answer, but want to hear your thoughts.

  1. Well things are going well, I almost hate to read the next chapter to find the demise of Jehoshaphat.
Hmmm, my thoughts. I think over these last several chapters the message is that we need to actively seek a relationship with God. No one else can substitute or make a connection for us. We need our own personal relationship with Jesus.

is that where you were going??

  2. My thinking is as follows.
During the Old Testament times, God the father was the part of the trinity that was directly dealing with us. In the new Testament times it was obviously Jesus, and now it is the Holy Spirit. I remember reading a verse where Jesus talked about "the great comforter" being sent to be with us. In my small mind that would mean that each of these 3 (sort of) entities has a unique way of communicating with us. Jesus was easy because he was here. God spoke thru prophets, and sometimes even through direct communication with people, or thru fire, or clouds. The Holy Spirit communicated differently. To your point, he is supposed to be dwelling within us, and therefore nudging us in the right direction......if we are on mission.
    just my take.
