He did not mince words. Here he got 12 guys to follow him and he didn't do it by promising big bucks like a a pyramid scheme or a safe life. No he said leave your family, leave our money, follow me to share a message. Oh and when you share that message you'll get locked up and probably beaten some of the time. sound good? great let's roll.
But their faith must have been strong and their heart for others big. He says if you love your own family more than me that's a problem too. These guys truly put him first, I'm pretty sure I'd struggle making the choices they made and giving up time with their families but I am thankful they did.

It seems crazy doesn't it? There was not much for them to gain, personally. At its core, I guess that's really what Christianity is supposed to be....right? That is a tough sell in this world. I was surprised that I couldn't name all 12 disciples. They are such important figures in the church and its history, and yet I could only name 3 or 4 of them. I'm not sure what that says....hmmmmm
ReplyDeletei'm in the 3 or 4 camp too. Happy New Year! I had fun at Orchard Hill on New Year's Day visiting with Dave, Ed, Jeff Mickey and ran into Roger and Mary Gast. It was hilarilous, Roger had no idea who I was when I just walked up next to him during a conversation he was having and stood there staring at him. When he saw Gina he recognized me! ha
