John 5

“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

This is probably completely off base here.  But, this verse caught my attention this morning.  It strikes me that we always are looking for someone else to help us get where we want to be.  Our society doesn't really foster the mindset of "self".  I don't think that was really the issue here.  but it brought the thought up in my mind.  We have been struggling with one of our kids not taking ownership of the things that happen around them.  I don't think its unusual.

This verse tells me that our future is in our hands.  We can choose to make the decisions that will carry us in a positive direction.......or not.

  1. yep, life is all about choices. For the most part things don't just happen to you, you choose to put yourself in certain circumstances and sometimes those circumstances are so good. I think it is something all teenagers struggle with, I remember similar conversations with my dad. Somewhere along the line the knowledge you are sharing will sink in.

39 You study[c] the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,

I'm always amazed at the people in Jesus time who had Him right in front of them yet could not recognize Him. This is the guy that was doing everything and fulfilling everything the scripture they had been studying all their lives said of the messiah. How blind can we humans be?
