17 You call out to God for help and he helps—he’s a good Father that way. But don’t forget, he’s also a responsible Father, and won’t let you get by with sloppy living.
I like this thought, he would do anything for you but he won't let you get by doing anything. As a Father I can't relate to this verse and helps me understand how God feels towards me.
He more than has my back, he wants to do anything he can to help me be happy. But he knows not everything I might think I want to do will result in happiness so he will guide me or maybe even discipline when out of line.

makes me think of the song "Good, good father." You are right. Being a father definitely puts this verse into greater context. It helps me to see how God is fully in my corner, but can get frustrated with me and the decisions I make....ahahaha....or maybe that's just how I look at Max/Ben.
