Genesis 23

16 Abraham agreed to Ephron’s terms and weighed out for him the price he had named in the hearing of the Hittites: four hundred shekels of silver, according to the weight current among the merchants.

I've read this chapter for a couple of days now....waiting for inspiration.  Here it is....not big.
1.  The death of a beloved spouse is tough!  I can't imagine how hard it was for your mom.  I dread the day that I'm faced with it.  I joke with Kim that I'll be the first to go, so I don't have to deal with it.
2.  If I'm not mistaken, this is the first land that Abraham owns in the "promised land."  It happens by circumstance, and not by take-over....but still.

just connecting dots here this morning.

  1. i was struck by why there was so much detail captured about the negotiation and also why didn't he just take it for free. I found the following which made some sense--

Conclusion: Most of us have been betrayed by people in our dealings whether business or social. Their motives usually vary? Father Abraham gives us a healthy guidelines for doing business:

    A. Be Honest
    B. Have Witnesses
    C. Get it in writing (a contract)
    D. Understand when something is too good to be true it isn’t

no free lunch, i'm not sure if these are the lessons of this chapter but they make sense.
