Genesis 26

When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.”

Its deja vu all over again.  Seems strange that Jacob is repeating what Abram had done with Saria.

OK, that's it.  I don't have a take.   Water seems pretty important too.

  1. It's funny isn't it? The sins of the father.....blah, blah, blah. So strange that Isaac does this too. Maybe it was something was not uncommon in those days. I do understand it a little bit. If your wife is beautiful and desirable and the society is a little lawless.....people could kill you and steal your wife. But, it would seem to leave her vulnerable. It's a little like trading your vulnerability for hers....hmmmm. Might be something there.
34 When Esau was forty years old, he married Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and also Basemath daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 They were a source of grief to Isaac and Rebekah.
This little line at the end caught my attention. It made me laugh a little bit. Sounds like Esau's 2 wives were not well liked by his parents. It's funny how that happens, isn't it? As we inch closer to that with our kids, it makes me wonder who they will pick, and will they be a source of grief for us? funny thought.
