Song of Solomon 4

One look my way and I was hopelessly in love!

I think this chapter is even tougher than the last one.  At least I could feel the duality and tension in the last book.  This one just seems to be a love letter.  I think it's great.  Its full of metaphors and imagery that is really well written.  But, I'm not getting much out of it that I can apply.  Other than, this is how I should looking to treat Kim.  Making sure I'm cherishing her in the way this chapter speaks.

I picked this verse, cause it's what happened to me.  I knew the minute I saw Kim that she was the one.  Luckily, I convinced her too.  It took her a little longer to get to the same place.

have a good weekend.

PS.  Keep Max in your thoughts and prayers.  He is really struggling with life right now, and had what I would call a "mental breakdown" this week.  It's pretty scary.  He isn't making positive choices, and it is hurting him.  He knows it, but is having a hard time changing behavior.  Its a tough spot to see your kid in.

Song of Solomon 3

Oh, let me warn you, sisters in Jerusalem,
by the gazelles, yes, by all the wild deer:
Don’t excite love, don’t stir it up,
until the time is ripe—and you’re ready.

This verse made me laugh.  Its so true.  I tell Kim this all the time.  Don't flirt it up with me unless you're ready for the consequences.   I think its funny in the chapter.....she was looking all over the city for him.  And then when she finds him she wasn't really ready for what followed.

Song of Solomon 2

I didn't grab a specific verse today.  Actually, I read this chapter for a couple of days now....looking for something.

I guess I will speak to more of the overall mood of the chapter.  It reminds me of "new love."  You remember that feeling of being super excited about Gina?  Nothing else gets in the way of that feeling and the desire to be with them at all cost.  I get that feeling from reading this.

The problem with daily life, is that lots of stuff gets in the way of that excitement.  I sometimes drive home from work excited to see Kim....and then I walk in the door.  The dog has crapped on the floor, or the kids are fighting, or she's had a hard day....and all of that feeling quickly goes away.

I think I will work hard to focus on the love I have for Kim and not let the distractions of life get in the way of me showing her that's how I feel.

Sounds corny when I read it back.  haha

Song of Solomon 1

15 How beautiful you are, my darling!
    Oh, how beautiful!
    Your eyes are doves.

I know that feeling....
I consider myself lucky to have this type of love and admiration for my wife.

Ecclesiastes 12

Fear God.
Do what he tells you.
14 And that’s it.
Back in The Message today.  The first part is a little depressing again.  I don't think it's intended to be.  But, in talking about how things change as you age, and how difficult things can become....I see those things happening to me.  Except for the hair turning apple-blossom white.  haha.
But, I like the summation of the entire book.  3 simple lines that I copy/pasted.
Listen to God and obey......you'll be more than fine!
"Downer" book complete!

Ecclesiastes 11

6  Go to work in the morning
and stick to it until evening without watching the clock.
You never know from moment to moment
how your work will turn out in the end.

Boy, I love this verse.  I wish I could use it as leverage for some of the people that work for me......hahaha!

I read it in both NIV and Message today.  I like the 2nd version.  This chapter isn't as bleak as the ones previous.  This one's overall message is to work hard and don't procrastinate your actions.  Do it!  You don't know what tomorrow brings.  But, in all of it.....make sure you are following a good path with your actions and decisions.

This is a chapter that would be great to talk to Max about.  I think I will read it to him tonight.

wish me luck!

Ecclesiastes 10

19 A feast is made for laughter,
    wine makes life merry,
and money is the answer for everything.

EEEHHHH......what?!  Money is the answer for everything?  To me, money is like salt-water.  The more you have, the more you need.  The more you have, the more you think about it.  Mo money....mo problems!

4  If a ruler’s anger rises against you,
    do not leave your post;
calmness can lay great offenses to rest.

I like this verse in reference to my job.  I'm in a position where there can be real high-stake political stuff.  It's a virtual land-mine field.  But, I find I do much better if I stay relatively quiet, and calm.  I've even been told that I'm cool under fire......not really, I'm just trying to not move so much that I become a target.  hahah

have a good weekend

Ecclesiastes 9

more of the same.  nothing we do matters, i can't get a positive message out of this the way it reads.  Best thing to me is only a few more chapters in this depressing book!

Ecclesiastes 8

15 So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.

I find this book pretty tough to gain insight from, kinda of depressing really.  This verse aligns with life is short enjoy the ride.  I do try to tell myself enjoy the ride or the journey.  I can get focused on the destination, which at times can cause me to miss out on the experiences of the moment because I'm looking ahead to where I need to get.  I'm better at that now, if you aren't yet you might be by November 11.

Ecclesiastes 7

Don’t be quick to fly off the handle.
Anger boomerangs. You can spot a fool by the lumps on his head.

I really didn't come up with anything today.  I switched to the message for a re-read and still not much.  I find this one to be true and I think I do decent at this except in traffic.  :0

Well two of the 3 of us are in our 50s now--time flies.  Enjoy your remaining days in your 40s.
