13-16 So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”
No specific take aways but I just like several areas of this chapter. I pulled the above from the Message version of the bible. I like the imagery of rolling up your sleeves and getting serious about living a life focused on Jesus. I also like the reference to obedient children, they do have the best faith not clouded or infected by the cynical world they will be growing up in.
I also liked the references to the old testament, thinking how faithful and full of Jesus and the Holy Spirit the prophets were during a time that seems so long ago to us but is just a blink of the eye to God. Here we are all these years later readying their words and they are just as relevant today as they were over 2000 years ago.
have a good Friday knut
the rolling up the sleeves is a good one.
ReplyDeleteI like how this chapter is set up. First portion is praising God for giving us Hope. Then, it directly follows up with "Be Holy". 1 plus 1 equals 2. God gave us this unbelievable gift, therefore we should act accordingly.
I like it.
have a good weekend.
