Why do you insist on putting me down,
using my troubles as a stick to beat me?
This line really jumped out at me today.
This is what we, as Christians, tend to do to those around us. We all deal with different issues, and vices. Some more visable than others. I think people with very apparent issues, like homosexuality or drug and alcohol issues tend to feel like they are ostrisized by the people in the church for their issues. We look down on them because of their issues, instead of being glad they are seeking God and his redemptive qualities. After all, we all fall short of where we need to be.
A good Christian knows he is a mess, and is eternally grateful for God's mercy and Christ's intervention on his behalf. Notice there is no judging of others and their faults in there.

I agree with you its not our job as Christians to run around judging others and when we do sometimes we alienate others from finding God. On the flip side we don't have to just roll over and say homosexuality is ok, the bible says its not. Today is the end of the General Synod meeting for the Reformed Church in America, its in Pella this year. I guess yesterday they were going to be proposing adding language to the Church Book of Order saying marriage is for one man and one woman. Apparently there have been papers written on the subject but this language has never been added to the official book of order. I guess there is a vocal minority from New Jersey who was coming and planning to fight this amendment, I haven't heard how it went. But it is interesting the fighting that goes on even within the church.
ReplyDeleteAgain I think we need to avoid beating people with sticks but somehow maintain the principles within the bible. Its a delicate balance but I thinking loving someone doesn't mean condoning a particular behavior. Hate the sin not the sinner.

yeah I completely agree with the "wrongness" of a lot choices made today.....including judging, greed, gosssip, homosexuality, and many many others. I just wish the people that are caught up in those things saw Christians as people with great love, and not a condeming group of self righteous zealots. An important thing that I try to remember is any choice made in the opposite direction of God, is a sin. Whether is bad sexual choices, or hurtful thoughts, they are all sins.
ReplyDeleteI like your last line. Hate the sin not the sinenr.
