John 19

24 “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said,
“They divided my clothes among them
and cast lots for my garment.”[a]
So this is what the soldiers did.

36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”[c] 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”[d]

Its interesting that they studied their law enough to know rules that they could use to justify putting Jesus to death for claiming to be the king of the Jews.   But they didn't recognize, as the Crucifixion was in progress, that other things were happening just as the scripture said it would that should make Jesus is God.  Shouldn't alarms have been going off in their heads saying uh oh we're in trouble?

Then again, who am I to talk?  How much is in the bible that I should know by heart but have no recollection of or do not even take note of when I read it?  How much instruction is right there for me that I do not use?

  1. WHOA!
you did a lot of catching up this weekend! Nice work!

You are right. In order to become a priest in those days, you had to almost have the bible memorized. In those days it was only the OT, but still. They should have known it front wards and backwards. And then there was probably a handful of people that had it all memorized but flunked out of the priesthood for one reason or another.....so there were plenty of people around that understood the prophesy, and what was supposed to happen to the messiah......but, didn't see it.
Here's my theory. It had to happen. Its all part of God's plan. So, it didn't really matter.
    How's that?
