1 Kings 22

Nothing grand today.  I'm continually amazed at how far the hearts of the kings of God's people have fallen.  We went from a king who was "after God's own heart", to where we are reading now.  I get it, there has been a significant amount of time between then and now.....but wow!  Shrine prostitutes, 400 prophets (not from God), greed, personal agendas........its shocking.
Here's a quick question:  Is this the first time that God referred to his people as sheep?

17 ", I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd,..."

  1. I agree, it just shows how easily we humans given our own free will can completely lose sight of following God. As for your question, I did a Bible Gateway search and it looks like it was close the first reference. Sheep comes up many, many times earlier but I only found a reference to them as people once before todays chapter. Good catch by you, because the reference becomes a staple in Gods word as we move forward--

2 Samuel 24:17New International Version (NIV)

17 When David saw the angel who was striking down the people, he said to the Lord, “I have sinned; I, the shepherd,[a] have done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done? Let your hand fall on me and my family.”
