Mark 6

“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

I read this over and over.  It seems to be going along fine.  Everyone is amazed.  Isn't this the same guy we used to know?  Isn't he from here?  Don't we know his family?  How is he doing all this unbelievable stuff?
Then it slams into crazy land!  "And they took offense at him."  WHAT?!!  That is not where I thought it was going.  How can you look at all of this stuff.......realize it's being done by someone that belongs to you.....from the same place you are....and you take offense?

When I think about it....my reaction to the things he does for me.....is the most important decision I make.

  1. good take.

51 Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, 52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.

As I read about the feeding I was thinking, this miracle is for the disciples because the groups of people may not have understood how little food they actually had available to share. Then I read these verses and see that he walked on water for them too. They had seen so much yet Jesus was still needing to show them a little more before they truly got it. Maybe that was necessary for their convictions to get so strong that they could carry his message when he was gone?

Alternatively I find it interesting how when Jesus shows up people recognize him. Did they see him on CNN for Facebook? How could people from some many regions recognize him? that amazes me. So we don't get to seem him in the flesh doing miracles now, reading and absorbing what has been documented in the bible is so critical to grow our understanding. You always do a great job of putting color around how things might have gone down from the stories we read in the bible--I appreciate that because I often just read only the text in front of me which is certainly more limited than the actual scene. pausing to imagine the story in greater detail makes it come to life more.
