Hebrews 3

For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

I'm gonna take this one off into crazy land.
We have our graduation open house for Max coming up in a few weeks.  If you remember, we did a massive home renovation project last summer, and I'm working on a hundred things to finish up all the projects.  This spring has been new lawn, landscaping, painting the new part of the house, blah, blah, blah.  We also got new furniture on the inside and lots of other stuff.  It looks great.  All with the deadline of the open house.
So, I'm sitting in church yesterday, and the series is called defining moments.  The pastor was talking about how you need to have God in the celebration as well as the hurt.  (you and I have talked about that one too)  All of the sudden this thought pops into my head.....I don't mind that you have a nice looking, newly reno'd house.....but who gets the glory for that, you or me?  Whoa!  It hit me like a ton of bricks.  Then I started thinking about all the people that will be in our house for the first time.  We have a chance to make an impression on them.  We have a chance to show them where our priority is.

Question for myself.  If you walked through our house, would you know Christ is the cornerstone of everything we do?  If not, how do I convey that one.

Sorry, for the long one.  Strange how what I'm feeling worked into the chapter for the day.  My house is most certainly built by God!

  1. Wow, nice take! We went through that craziness last year and I was just sharing my perspective with a friend from church who was in the middle of his preparation for his son's grad party--wish I had your thoughts then.

Here's a combo of my thoughts with your the impact of your words. As I told Kevin my friend, don't sweat it if you don't finish the new wood trim or get all the weeds pulled an mulch put down....that stuff is for you the guests will be on a whirlwind through many houses and won't remember any of that stuff.

now your impact on me...I don't think they will see God's glory in the new furniture or know God is your cornerstone by a Faith sign in your house (not bad stuff). I think they will know by the warmth of your reception of them and the appreciation you show them and how they see you serving your guests. How Todd helps Kim with any request she has for you on that day. In short I think it is your actions in their presence that will display where you place your value and who you think should get the glory.

13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

I didn't have near the take as you but I am thankful for reading how you were impacted. I took away life can be hard--take care of each other and protect each other.
