4 They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.
I didn't have much of a take today, I don't feel like I have a lot of suffering like it discusses. This verse caught me the second time through--they are surprised. When you are surprised it generally means something caught your attention, more than just a passive 'oh I noticed'. Now it says they heap abuse on you, but I was more focused on the fact that good behavior in an attempt to follow God's instruction as best as humanly possible is actually an attention grabber. Maybe a chance to influence or even open the door for a conversation with someone who may be ready to and wanting to learn more about Jesus.
maybe not the point of the chapter, but a thought that hit me.

ReplyDeleteI like this one. Love covers a lot. If we could just love and respect each other the world would be a better place. This resonates so strongly to me, due to what I see on the news every night. Narcissism and relentless self promotion seem to be the method everyone thinks will get them ahead. This says the opposite.
