John 8

 John 8:12

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world.   Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

I picked this verse today.  I'm not sure why.  Just seems like we need some light in these days.  I'm trying hard to hold on to the light.  We have COVID raging here in Detroit.  We've had lots of friends lose family members.  Then there's the political strife right now, and the volatility it is bringing out in people.  Then our home situation with mental instability.....its been a TOUGH year!  I'm looking up.......just looking up.

Romans 12

  20 On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
    if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e]

Today I'm needing this as I think about work.  So not that I have enemies but I am in a position where we are having heavy debate with my own peer teammates--to the point where I am losing sleep and thinking of arguments I should have made or things I will say.

So I may be miss applying this verse but I have this feeling that as I reflect some of my thoughts/arguments feel more out of anger and frustration like a fight verses working together to solve the problem.  I need use some of your comments from yesterday--get into my 'enemies' shoes.  Then try to help them with their problem--now I'm not trying to put burning coals on their head I'm just reflecting that my negative actions/comments may actually fuel the fire verses helping me get to my desired end game.

1 Corinthians 9 -- Mavericks are re-engaging

So looking to dip my toe back in the water I used a random bible chapter generator--scientific ha.  I read the entire chapter though going forward I may or may not drive through an entire chapter at once.  I am suggesting we just let it flow a bit more vs. plowing through an entire book or even a chapter.  Bounce where ever we might feel lead.  so today this verse seems fitting--

Everyone
who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

We are in the game of life.  COVID as thrown us a wrench.  I fell off the wagon of discipline getting into the bible.  We don't go to church in person at the moment.  Gina and I do listen to a service or two and she continues to study the bible daily.  Me not so much.

Paul reminds me that I do need to be in the word and studying it to train for the game of life.  Today is a start--not even a wind sprint, just a restart.
