I received a message from Gina this afternoon that you were in the hospital suffering from appendicitis. I hope they are at least able to medicate to take the edge off the pain until your 7am surgery, I know it can be excruciating. I pray for the doctors to make quick work of this operation and you come out feeling better immediately and have a quick recovery.
Luke 3
8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
John let's us know God can do great things with any stone, even me. But also that we better not let ourselves feel we have some right of passage, we better produce fruits with whatever gifts he has given us as a part of our repentance. So while we can't earn our way to heaven, maybe producing fruits (doing good works and obeying his rules for us) is a reflection of someone who is genuine in their repentance?
Get healthy brother!

i love that picture...that the ax is already at the root of the trees. If we lived our lives with the urgency that creates, things would look very different.
ReplyDeleteThe works concept is a tough one. I think the difference is if the works are the reason you think you're saved, or are they the resultant of you being saved.
