Mark 6

He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

and

51 Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, 52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.

So this seems like about 5 chapters rolled into 1, who decided how to break these books into chapters and versus anyway?...that discussion is for another day.

early in the chapter it caught my attention that Jesus could not do many miracles and it seems to be directly tied to their lack of faith.  Then late in the chapter he is walking on water right after feeding the 5,000+ and his own disciples are said to not have understood he performed a miracle and they don't recognize him or even expect that he could be capable of walking on water.

I don't know where I'm going with this other than to note how difficult it is for humans to have faith, you would think people in his homeland and his own disciples would have the opportunity to have grown in faith more than the average Joe.  Yet they seem just as clueless as anyone else.  What do we need to do to make sure we don't have the same short comings?

  1. I sometimes like to think that it should have been easy for the disciples to have faith.....they were actually seeing these things. But, I would probably be as big an idiot as they were. It seems we are programmed for doubt, self reliance, and the need for things to exist in the physical world. Sad really.....at least that has to be God's viewpoint. But, I guess he's the one that set it up that way, right?

I does seem like WAY Too much to be in one chapter. I've probably heard 100 lengthy sermons...all outta this one chapter.
