5 The Lord said to Moses, 6 “Say to the Israelites: ‘Any man or woman who wrongs another in any way[b] and so is unfaithful to the Lord is guilty 7 and must confess the sin they have committed. They must make full restitution for the wrong they have done, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the person they have wronged.
Unfaithfulness between men and women started right from the get go and more than obviously continues today. I don't think many people who are unfaithful to their spouse think about it as being unfaithful to their Maker as well--but he clearly says it is right here.
This is one area that just runs rampant among our society today and obviously in the past too. When I read stuff like this it makes me so thankful for my relationship with Gina. I couldn't be more attracted to someone than I am her and can't even imagine doing something to screw up. But I sure know a lot of other people that aren't so fortunate. He tells us here its serious...don't do it.
knut
I feel the exact same way. I would never do anything to jeopardize what I have been so blessed, to have.
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading this chapter, it occurs to me that God is simply setting up some rules that will help his people be successful. Anyone who has a disease, place them outside the camp. (this will keep it from spreading) If someone is wronged....the wronger must make amends and also pay a fifth more. (this will keep people honest) And the most of the chapter is spent on the faithfulness in marriage. If I had to guess....I would say these are probably the biggest 3 issues in those times. That's why he gave the commands. Interesting thing is that people don't really change much, as it relates to the heart. We still struggle with these same issues to day.
God is REALLY smart!
