Matthew 16

New look to the blog for 2017!  I thought we should probably switch it up.

There is a lot to glean from this chapter.  I am always fascinated by Jesus and the things he says.  But. the phrase that catches my eye today is this one.  It is probably the most important question that we as humans need to ask our selves.  Who is Jesus?  Is he who he says he is?  If that is true, how does it change my life.  You can't answer it as .."the Son of God," and not have it change your life.  If you do....then something's wrong.

“Who do you say I am?”

  1. fresh look, i got in last night and wasn't sure if it was glitching or an updated background.

18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[b] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it.

I read this and thought wow, what pressure. God is building his church on this person Peter. Jesus named him Peter which means rock. He says on this rock he will build his church and in fact Peter did play a significant role in the church after Jesus resurrection. But then I do a little research and see all there is much debate about what Jesus was saying with those words. Some also say the rock is referring to his faithful statement that Jesus is the messiah.

So lots of smart people have tried to dissect it and don't all agree. But after seeing what you wrote my thought is the rock having faith that Jesus is the Son of God.
