20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
He makes it clear to us if we have even a small amount of faith we are unlocking some serious power available to us in God. All it takes is faith. Yet how difficult it is for us to have even a mustard seeds worth of faith. I noticed what drove him to make this statement was the disciples in ability to heal a boy because their faith was so little.
So not to make excuses but if it was difficult for the disciples in the presence of Jesus to have strong faith, then it seems our challenge may be even greater.
Being in the word and in prayer every day is probably the key and maybe our only chance to develop the relationship and knowledge of God to enable our faith to be strong...strong being defined as still a small amount since a mustard seed is the threshold for being able to move mountains.

ps--i went back and read what we wrote in 2014. picked the same vs and wrote the same stuff. not sure what that tells me--am I growing at all?
I found myself reading the Transfiguration part of the chapter, a couple of times. I even went back and read 16 as a transition to it. I find it interesting that it starts out with the line, "After 6 days..." Is there a significance to the 6 days? Is there a correlation to the natural rhythmn of 6 days of work, and 1 for rest? Does it mean anything that this happened on the 7th day? I don't know.
ReplyDeleteI also found myself wondering the significance of the event. Why did he allow a few of his disciples to see it? There is obviously something we need to grasp. Could it be, that this gives us "hind-sight" proof of his connection to Moses and Elijah? Perhaps this would have closed the loop for the Jewish educated people of day, that would have known all the prophesies of the Old Testament and would be able to connect the dots?
lots of questions today.
I found myself feeling the same way you did with the faith stuff. Sometimes I don't feel like I have it in my to do it. Then I remember that I don't have to. Jesus created that way for me.
