1 Thessalonians 4

16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

So I'm not a scholar, so a verse like this made me wonder about timing of going to heaven.  Is my Dad there now?  I would say yes but this made me wonder.

Well Google it and turns out lots of others have the same wondering, in some cases concern.  Not a concern for me, not a faith rocking question just something I don't understand.  People site other versus to the contrary including Jesus on the cross saying today you will be with me in paradise--not you'll be with me when I return thousands of years later.

So some interesting reads, people theorizing about God living outside of time, so this only pertains to those of us still living in time.  Oh and if Jesus said today you will be with me in paradise does that mean he wasn't in hell for 3 days?  all interesting small human mind questions, but not something I'm going to be losing sleep over.

rambling today---later,

  1. Its funny you wrote this. We were down in Tennessee this week on spring break, and we came upon an old civil war cemetery. I was thinking about the same thing. Its hard to wrap your mind around, isn't it? I can barely fathom God living outside time, and us in it. If God truly is outside of time,.....then to think that through......we are already there. Whoa! mind bender.
Fun stuff to ponder, but to your point, it shouldn't distract us from living in his mission. It should only serve to show us how superior he is to us, and that we won't fully understand until the day we meet him face to face.
