I have to keep reminding myself that Paul is writing these letters to cities/churches that are brand spanking new christians. He sometimes reverts back to telling the story of Christ....which is COMPLETELY understandable considering where the letters were being sent.
8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ.
I pulled this verse out today. It seems like everyone has a logical reason why, what I believe in, isn't true. I can come up with reasons myself......but this verse warns of that kind of thinking and of that kind of philosophy.
It always makes me laugh to think about people that use "science" as an argument against Christianity. If you were a supreme being capable of speaking worlds into existence.....don't you think you would be smart enough to come up with the set of rules by which that world works? Its like believing in the pie, rather than the baker that made it. hahaha!

I picked the same verse as you. Yes in today's US society it is almost in vogue to attack or diminish our Christian faith. I think science is a hollow faith of its own. They can't even tell me if eggs or good or bad for me consistently over 50yrs how can they be certain they understand how the universe was formed? ha
ReplyDeleteI think about creation when I visit the ocean like last week. It is so vast it is overwhelming and to think I'm looking at a 15mile view of it and it goes on for thousands of miles is crazy. Then to stare into the sky and think of the pictures from the Hubble telescope even more mind bending.
Science would say it was a big bang. But from where? where did heat come from? life spontaneously arose with no help from God out of a pool of water and later crawled onto earth? Yeah don't be fooled by the hollow deception of all knowing scientific theory.
