john 8

47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

This is pretty condemning to read.  I often say I don't know when God is talking to me and when its my own voice.  You pointed out the same thing yesterday.  This tells me that if I truly know God and belong to him I would have no problem hearing Him and following his direction.  But I am a sinner and therefore my line of communication has static caused by the devil.  The closer I get to God the shorter my line of communication the less opportunity for the devil to insert his static.

  1. I'm with you. That verse scare the crap out of me. It really does. In church on Sunday, the speaker was talking about denying the flesh, and the eyes, and it got me wondering what I am, or have denied myself in this world, for God. I'm not sure I know the answer to that. I've denied myself many things in the interest of my family, and even my own future. I give to the church, and to other charities.....but does that really constitute me denying myself the things of this world? hmmmmm....

58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
this verse caught my attention, mostly due to the consistency of the language with other parts of the bible. "I am" is used many times. I can remember God using this with Moses at the burning bush. I love how consistent the bible is, and how Jesus seems to fit right into that. Its very obvious to me, when I read something like this, that he knows SSSOOOO much more about what is going on, and has gone on, than the people he is talking to. It must have been very difficult for him to surpress his human side, and to not berate the people for being tiny and really stupid.
