Luke 3

John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

Strange take away today.  These couple of sentences reminded me of thing Jesus said.  I think he used the exact line "...brook of vipers."  He also talked several times about producing fruit, whether it be fruits of the spirit, or of the fig tree in the courtyard.  John the Baptist and Jesus were definitely connected in a way I can't understand.  But, again....the plan is perfect.

23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph.

This line is strange.  I know what the author is saying, but its a funny way to say it.   To those around him, Joseph appeared to be his father, but in reality his father was God.

  1. I've been spotty between spring break and early meetings, I'll get caught up.

16 John answered them all, “I baptize you with[b] water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire.

So in Chapt 2, I was noting how Jesus followers don't even seem to recognize who he is sometimes. But here I note that John is quite certain of who he is and that Jesus the messiah is coming closely behind him. No real take, just interesting to me those people that do have such clarity. He is so clear he is not afraid of Herod, he just speaks truth. Good lesson to have that kind of faith.
