Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction;
pay attention and gain understanding.
2 I give you sound learning,
so do not forsake my teaching.
3 For I too was a son to my father,
still tender, and cherished by my mother.
4 Then he taught me, and he said to me,
“Take hold of my words with all your heart;
keep my commands, and you will live.
I don't have a brilliant take today (like that ever happens....hahaha)
I really like how this reads. I understand the feeling behind what is being said. I have this same conversation weekly with my boys. But, they don't seem to hold my opinion in such high value as the verse is talking about. Its frustrating to have independent kids that want to experience things and make their own decisions and judgement, when it would be so much easier if they just did what I told 'em. =)
There is tremendous value in experience and wisdom. I think as we get older, you start to understand that more and more.
The overall lesson in this is that we should be listening to our heavenly father. He knows FAR better than we do. Our way of doing life will only lead to pain.

Above all else, guard your heart,
ReplyDeletefor everything you do flows from it.
24 Keep your mouth free of perversity;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
There is so much opportunity in this world to corrupt your heart. This is what I fear most for my kids. I think they are doing pretty well but at the same time I sometimes see and hear things that concern me. For myself I'm thinking a lot about work and that last sentence hit me--guard my tongue from corrupt talk, it is not fruitful.
