1 Samuel 11 - t

I like how the author narrates Sauls battle strategy.  I've heard it said that Joshua was the greatest military mind of the old testament...but, Saul seems to be doing quite well.
I find it interesting that the tribe of Judah is mentioned specifically in the number of men they delivered, while the other tribes are lumped together.  Perhaps some divine fore-shadowing.

We are working through a series at church that deals with conflict/anger.  We actually talked about this reference.  The Spirit of God came over Saul, and he BURNED with anger....I almost always associate anger with evil, but this clearly isn't the case here.

This was the perfect "set-up" for God to clearly anoint Saul as the Israelites king.  There's nothing like a great military victory to align the people.

I'm rambling

  1. I took note at the same verse, I agree Spirit of God and burning with anger are now what I expected to read together.

I also find it interesting how decisive and clear minded Saul is on what the next steps should be. One moment he finds out about a problem, the next he is united them under the fear of God--no hesitation he knows exactly what to do.

Being close with God makes difficult decisions more clear, not necessarily easy.
