“Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.
This is why our medical symbol is a snake wrapped around a pole. You see it on ambulances and on hospitals. Funny isn't it?
I just start laughing now, when I start to read the lines......"the Isrealites started to grumble against God and against Moses....." It seems to happen every other chapter. God reacts, and then they repent. It reminds me of that movie that Tom Cruise did, called "Live, Die, Repeat"
They don't seem to learn.
I had never hear that about the snake until I read about it today. But I also saw some people saying it came from the Greeks--what do you think?
ReplyDelete5 they spoke against God and against Moses...6 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them..."We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
I didn't take too much out of todays travels and conquering of various kingdoms by the Israelites. But the pattern continues, they trust for a while then things go poorly and they lose faith then they get a true reality check ask for God to help them place their trust in him again for a while....rinse and repeat.
It seems so silly reading it, but then its a little humbling to think of my own mindset. This repetitive cycle is probably documented here to give us a chance at recognizing our patterns and some hope for trying to change those patterns.
